#TakeawayTuesday encourages all Australians to place an order every Tuesday to support local restaurants and casual dining.
The initiative has been spearheaded by the Restaurant & Catering Association (R&CA) and Unilever Food Solutions to help supplement reduced dine-in trade.
“COVID-19 continues to impact the restaurant industry in a big way particularly with the second wave of restrictions coming into effect in NSW & Victoria, as well as international borders remaining closed and restaurants facing an absence of both international and domestic tourism,” says Wes Lambert, R&CA CEO.
Takeaway and delivery will continue to be critical lifeline for the industry in the coming months.
Data from Food Industry Foresight reports 95% of businesses surveyed will keep using takeaway as a revenue stream into the future, with 68% continuing using delivery (either through a third party or via self delivery) in the future.
“If our favourite restaurants are to survive this crisis, it is critical that we continue to help our restaurants survive and rebuild their business,” says Lambert.
“We need all Australians to get behind #TakeawayTuesday – whether that is helping to promote it or by ordering takeaway so our restaurants and chefs can keep their businesses in business.”
Diners are encouraged to support venues every Tuesday by snapping a photo of their meal and using the hashtag on social media.
