Patrn hosted the finals for the Australian edition of the Patrn Perfectionist Cocktail Competition on 18 October, and Eau de Vie’s Nick Cozen claimed the crown.

Nine finalists from across Australia were selected from over 115 online entries, which asked bartenders to enter their Patrn Tequila cocktail ‘worthy of a perfectionist’.

The finalists were:

  • Mitchell Gurrin from The Dominion League, WA with ‘Fifty Shades of Clay’
  • Nicholas Cozens from Eau De Vie, VIC with ‘Song of the Sea’
  • Nicholas David Anile from Long Chim Perth, WA with ‘Wild Himalayan’
  • Sarah Dawn Mitchell from Boilermaker House, VIC with ‘El Claridad’
  • Kurtis Bosley from Bar Moncur, NSW with ‘La Smoka Rosa’
  • Hannah Bolt from The Statler and Waldorf, QLD with ‘Split Pearsonality’
  • Ella Rhodes from The Gresham, QLD with ‘Frida’
  • Alexander Boon from Brooklyn Standard/Maker, QLD with ‘The Hacienda Cup’
  • Alexander Gilmour form Tio´s Cerveceria, NSW with ‘Don’t Take Me Lightly Senorita!’
  • Alexander Archibald from Seamstress, VIC with ‘Sage Advice’

The finalists then competed at a live grand final in Sydney, in front of the judging panel, which included:

  • Lee Applbaum – chief marketing officer for Patrn Spirits
  • Phil Bayly – pioneer in developing the Agave spirits category in Australia
  • Ben Davidson – former Cocktail World Cup Champion (2004)
  • Thalita Gabriel – bartender at Sydney’s Bulletin Place
  • Simon McGoram – owner of Bondi’s Neighbourhood Bar  

Nick Cozens from Melbourne’s Eau de Vie took out the prize with his Song of the Sea cocktail, served in a conch sea shell vessel and comprising Patrn Silver. The cocktail was garnished with salted agave air, resting on a bed of pineapple and black pepper sand.

RECIPE:

  • 40ml Patrn Silver
  • 15ml vanilla washed Lillet Blanc
  • 20ml fresh lime juice
  • 20ml black pepper and coriander shrub
  • 20ml fresh pineapple juice
  • salted agave air spooned over the top

Cozens will now travel to the Hacienda Patrn – Patrn Tequila’s distillery in the highlands of Jalisco, Mexico where the winner will represent Australia in the Global Patrn Perfectionists finale.
