National awards program Appetite for Excellence has teamed up with Perrier to launch a spritz-making competition.

Bartenders are invited to compete in the contest, which will be judged by Luke Ashton from This Must Be The Place.

“I’m really excited to be judging this year’s competition at This Must Be the Place and seeing what some of Australia’s talented bartenders can produce with an iconic brand such as Perrier,” says Ashton.

Participants must create a spritz that contains a minimum of 30mL of Perrier, a wine of their choice and no more than five ingredients.

Spirits, aperitifs, liqueurs can also be included along with homemade ingredients such as syrups and shrubs that are capped at two per spritz. Garnishes are not including as ingredients.

Entries should include a name for the spritz, a brief description of the inspiration and why it deserves to become an icon.

An image of the final drink and a step-by-step recipe for any homemade ingredients should also be included.

Finalists will be flown to Sydney to make their spritz for Luke Ashton and the Perrier team on Monday August 6 at This Must Be The Place in Darlinghurst.

The winner will be announced at the Appetite for Excellence awards that evening where the winning spritz will be served to leading industry guests.

The prize includes a return flight with Virgin Australia from Sydney to Hong Kong along with $1000 spending money.

Applications close on 25 July 2018. Enter here.
