W50BB21 Awards Ceremony

The annual list of The World’s 50 best bars is set to be revealed in the Catalan capital of Barcelona in a live awards ceremony on 4 October.

It will be the first time the event has been held outside of London since its inception in 2009.

“We are delighted to bring The World’s 50 Best Bars ceremony to Barcelona this year, celebrating the return of international travel and the dazzling performance of the global bars sector over the past year,” says Content Director Mark Sansom.

“London has been a fantastic home for us but, as we come out of the pandemic, we are excited to have the opportunity to shine a spotlight on other great cocktail cities, starting with Barcelona, which has three outstanding venues on The World’s 50 Best Bars 2021 list.”

All the venues ranked 51-100 on the list will be released ahead of the ceremony and will be voted by more than 650 anonymous industry experts.

The panel will vote in line with the requirements taking into account travel restrictions that have occurred in the last year.

50 Best will also announce in advance the winners of the Michter’s Art of Hospitality and Altos Bartenders’ Bartender, which highlight the achievements of one bar and one bartender.

To celebrate 50 Best’s work supporting the hospitality industry during Covid-19,
which saw more than $1.29m raised, The Blend Scholarship will be open globally to any bartender aged 21 and over.

Three finalists for the scholarship will be hosted at the 2022 ceremony where the 50 Best scholar will be announced.

Eligible candidates will have fewer than three years’ experience and the recipient will go on to complete two internships at two of the worlds best bars — Connaught in London and Katana Kitten in New York City.

The winner will also be sent to Madrid with The Blend by Beam Suntory and receive £500 per week for living expenses in these cities.

The countdown of the list will be broadcasted worldwide through invitation on The World’s 50 Best Bars Facebook page and YouTube Channel.
