Calling all chefs and cooks! If you have a pie recipe that rivals the rest, show off your skills in the new Boutique Pie category at the 2018 Official Great Aussie Pie Competition.
The winner will take home a Robot Coupe SP502-A Mixer worth over $1000, as well as the prestigious title of best boutique pie in Australia, which will help put your business in the public eye.
The new category is perfect for pies that are a bit out of the ordinary. Your boutique pie must still have a savoury filling and be somewhat encased in pastry, but it could look a bit different and not a typical, traditional Aussie meat pie.
Now in its 29th year, the Official Great Aussie Pie Competition will be held at Fine Food Australia in Melbourne on 10-13 September.
The competition is judged over the four days by a team of 16 judges from the baking industry. As well as the Boutique Pie, categories include Plain Mince and Chunky, Red Meat, Poultry, Game, Seafood, Vegetarian, Gluten Free, Breakfast and Apple.
The Official Great Aussie Sausage Roll competition was also introduced in 2014 and will take place alongside the pie awards this year.
In total, there are over $16,500 worth of cash and prizes to be won. Past winners have enjoyed a large increase in sales and, in some instances, the competition has turned small pie producers into million-dollar businesses.
