The ultimate celebration of specialty loose leaf tea, the Sydney Tea Festival will be held on Sunday 20 August at Carriageworks.
The one-day event will feature a new do-it-yourself tea blending station and an interactive tea ceremony performance. There will also be a program of workshops and talks hosted by leading industry experts.
“Although tea is one of the country’s most popular non-alcoholic beverages, it’s probably one the most misunderstood,” says festival co-founder Renee Creer.
“The festival aims to change that, encouraging both tea novices and connoisseurs alike to discover and explore what specialty tea is all about.”
Festival-goers can wander around the Tea Market and taste a range of specialty loose-leaf teas and tisanes including premium, single origin, organic and rare teas, healthy herbal blends, chocolate, chai and iced teas along with a range of locally grown and globally sourced teas.
Tasting tea will be a breeze with the festival’s signature porcelain cup appearing again. Valued at $5 and included in every adult ticket, the cup will allow visitors to taste their way through the day.
In addition, savoury and sweet bites will be on offer, with a range of food purveyors and trucks boasting global cuisine and tea-inspired creations.
Visitors can also participate in the Tea with a Stranger tea ceremony performance hosted by members of Ueda Sōko Ryū Australia.
“Tea with a Stranger encourages people to leave their digital self behind and step into the vulnerability of face-to-face human connection facilitated by the sharing of tea,” says Festival co-founder Corinne Smith.
