The World’s 50 Best Restaurants has announced a new list set to showcase the future of the global industry.

Next will launch in February 2021 and feature young professionals working across all facets of the food and drink sectors.

The program will primarily focus on people under the age of 35 and “aims to inspire, empower and connect young people who are truly pushing boundaries and tackling challenges from fresh perspectives,” reads a press release from 50 Best.

“This list will shine a spotlight on individuals at every level of the food and drink chain, from farmers and winemakers to activists and app creators.”

Nominations and applications are open until 12 November 2020, with the list announced on 22 February.

Dedicated events will be held after the announcement in Bilbao, Spain.

Those who make it onto the 50 Next list will also have the opportunity to connect with leading chefs including Massimo Bottura, Daniel Humm and more.

Meanwhile, The World’s 50 Best Restaurants will return in 2021, with the awards ceremony and event program to be held in Antwerp, Belgium.

The ceremony is slated to take place on 8 June after a one-year hiatus due to COVID-19.

The annual list will be compiled differently to previous years, with full details of the changes to be revealed in 2021.

“After such an extraordinary and challenging year for the restaurant sector – and the world as a whole – we are looking forward with optimism and excitement to 2021,” says William Drew, director of content for The World’s 50 Best Restaurants.

“We believe that 50 Best has an important role to play in helping boost the recovery of restaurants worldwide, connecting food lovers across the globe and sharing a sense of solidarity and positive change – and we aim to bring this all together in Antwerp, Flanders for the comeback edition of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants.”
