The World AeroPress Championship (W.A.C) is teaming up with local coffee institution Single O to bring the competition to Sydney in 2018.
This year’s W.A.C will be held at Commune on Saturday 17 November, with 61 national champions set to battle it for the title of 2018 World AeroPress Champion.
The W.A.C is a multi-round, elimination tournament of competitive coffee making. Competitors have just a few minutes to brew a single cup of AeroPress coffee and present it to a group of judges. The judges blind taste each coffee and decide which they think is the best. On the count of three, all judges simultaneously point to their chosen coffee. The winner progresses to the next round, while the losers are eliminated.
When the first Aeropress competition took place in Oslo, Norway in 2008 just three competitors participated. It now spans 140 regional and national events taking place in over 60 countries.
Each season now sees more than 3,000 competitors getting involved. Every year the W.A.C Final happens in a different city, with 2018 being the first time the event has been held in Sydney.
