Western Australia's Australian Hotels Association (AHA WA) is once again on the look-out for the state’s best steak sandwich, with over 60 venues competing for the public’s vote.

Now in its ninth year, the competition aims to raise the quality of the state’s steak sandwiches, while also putting the spotlight on its pub food offering.

“Steak sandwiches are an Aussie icon and a highlight of any pub menu,” said AHA (WA) CEO, Bradley Woods. “They pull together great ideas, home-style cooking, fresh local produce and beautiful Australian beef.

“No matter where you are in WA, you can find a unique, delicious and fresh steak sandwich that represents great value for money. WA has some of the best pubs in the most unique tourism regions of Australia and we celebrate the steak sandwich as an iconic taste of WA.”

The public has until 13 April to submit their votes, after which five Perth finalists and five country WA finalists will be invited to compete in a live steak sandwich cook-off.

The finalists will be announced on 15 April, with the cook-offs taking place at the AHA Hospitality Expo on 10 and 11 May, at Crown Perth.

Last year, the winners were Wickepin Hotel & Harvest Caf (Best Regional Steak Sandwich) and The Merrywell at Crown Perth (Best Metropolitan Steak Sandwich).
