TripAdvisor has announced its Travellers’ Choice Awards for restaurants around the world with Melbourne’s Vue de Monde taking out Australia's top spot.
356 restaurants around the globe were honoured in total with the results based on the reviews and opinions of TripAdvisor users.
“Vue de Monde is thrilled to be awarded number one in Australia for the TripAdvisor Traveller’s Choice Restaurant awards,” said Shannon Bennett, head chef of Vue de Monde.
“For us, not only does it give a true indication of how our customers feelb about the experience we offer but also what we need to do to keep improving and striving to exceed our customers’ expectations.”
Barbara Messing, chief marketing officer for TripAdvisor said that the awards focused on the top fine-dining restaurants around the globe.
“An exceptional dining experience can be the highlight of a trip or a special occasion,” says Messing. “These elite dining establishments have earned the highest praise from travelers for their remarkable cuisine and commitment to service."
In addition to the nation’s top dining establishments, TripAdvisor also identified Australian food-related travel trends via a gastronomic survey that it facilitated. Out of the 8,000 respondents, 50 percent of Australians say that they dine out at least once a week, with more than 53 percent of Australians opting for fine and moderately upscale dining experiences when eating out locally. 30 percent say they have planned a gastronomic getaway to a destination to try its local cuisine, with 27 percent stating that they have planned such trips to eat at a specific restaurant.
