Sak Jr, a spin-off of Sak Restaurant & Bar, opened in Melbourne on Wednesday 14 September and to celebrate its arrival there will be three days of giveaways.

On Wednesday morning from 11am the first 500 customers will receive a complimentary Sak Jr build-your-own rice, noodle, salad and bao bun based bowl, topped with fresh vegetables, proteins, sauces and condiments. Possible combinations include udon rice noodles topped with crispy sesame soy pork, blistered beans in black garlic sauce, drizzled with apple soy ginger sauce and garnished with tempura crunch, or seasoned sushi rice with spicy yuzu ponzu salmon chirashi, charred corn and garlic shoots, Japanese salad dressing and toasted nori strips.

The first 100 customers in line on Thursday will receive a free breakfast porridge bowl and regular coffee from 7am–10am, while on Friday the first 100 customers will receive a free build-your-own bowl and 300ml Hattori Hitgirl or Blushing Geisha craft beer from 5pm–7pm. Customers who share a photo of their customised bowl on social channels by September 25 will receive a free ice-cream sandwich on their next visit.

The opening of Sak Jr marks Urban Purveyor Group’s first foray into the fast-casual dining space, which is expected to become Australia’s fastest growing dining sector over the next five years.

Sak Jr Bourke Street is the second, with the first opening at Westfield Sydney in late August. The fast-casual, small-format venues showcase the flavours of older sibling, Sak, served with a Korean twist. Urban Purveyor Group plans to roll out around 100 Sak Jrs nationally in the next five years. At least two more are expected to open before the end of 2016, one at Grosvenor Place dining precinct in Sydney and another at St Collins Lane shopping centre in Melbourne.

Sak Jr Bourke Street will open from 7am for breakfast Monday–Saturday, with options like an acai bowl; seasonal fruit salad with yuzu; okinawa sugar banana bread; or berry and yuzu muesli on offer. The opening menu also features quick ‘grab & go’ items, including miso and kimchi soups; sushi rolls; salads; dumplings and gyoza. Desserts include chocolate-dipped strawberry shuriken ice cream sandwiches and yuzu orange wasabi sorbet. The offerings also include cold press juices; healthy smoothies; nut milks; locally-roasted Bonacci coffee; and organic kombucha.

Customers will be able to purchase draught Hattori Hitgirl or Blushing Geisha craft beer by Urban Brewing Co, an arm of Urban Purveyor Group, as well as house wines on tap and sak by the glass.

Customers who download the Sak Jr App from the Apple store or Google Play will be able to claim their 10th bowl and coffee for free and a free ice cream sandwich on their birthday.
