The Star Sydney has opened the doors to the first of a number of new hospitality concepts.

Located opposite the Sydney Lyric Theatre, Cucina Porta is headed up by Executive Chef Martino Pulito, who has curated a menu inspired by his family recipes and childhood memories.

“Much like at home, my dishes at Cucina Porto use just a handful of ingredients, most of which are sourced locally, to create honest, authentic and uncomplicated food that celebrates Italian culture,” says Pulito.

“There are dishes my mother and nonna would make for Sunday lunch spent around the family table.”

A range of snacks, pizzas, pastas, proteins and desserts are covered on the menu, with standout dishes including slow-cooked Fremantle octopus and gremolata spaghetti and crumbed veal with rocket and watercress.

Wood-fired pizzas are all priced under $30, with options including fior di latte, ‘nduja, roasted potato, capsicum and smoked cheese plus tomato, fior di latte, rocket, Parma prosciutto, burrata and fig.

Bar manager Behzad Nvaziri has taken charge of the drinks list, which focuses on classic cocktails and a Negroni ‘progression’ menu which encompasses six variations.

A selection of Italian and Australian wines are on offer, which are served to guests in a decanter.

Cucina Porta has a capacity of 170 patrons and is open for lunch Friday to Sunday and dinner Tuesday to Sunday.
