South Melbourne’s The Star Hotel is this month relaunching as a modern Australian dining and entertainment destination.

Refurbished by Reeb, the venue now boasts elements of a traditional beer garden, including recycled timber decking, green turf and festoon lighting brought indoors over the two-storey layout. The Star Hotel’s new look also includes lux bronze and copper fittings and exposed popes, indoor floor to ceiling palms, suspended booths and a vertical garden.

The Star Hotel now includes five separate spaces: the downstairs pub, the downstairs dining hall, the upstairs function room, the rooftop terrace and the lounge, catering to over 400 people in total.

Chef Danny Callen, previously of St Kilda’s The Post, will join as The Star Hotel’s head chef and has plans to add a fresh and contemporary spin on Australian pub food through the venue’s new lunch, dinner and late supper menus comprising grazing plates and larger meals.

The Star Hotel’s drink list will include cocktails, boutique wines and locally brewed beers. The hotel will also be one of the first Australian pubs to feature an innovative overhead CUB Duo Tank system that houses non-pasteurised beer direct from the brewery.

Reeb’s Ben Addison said “It is a pleasure to be able to redevelop an iconic Melbourne venue in a high profile location to create a top destination for a modern style of dining and socialising that is not yet catered for in the local market. Having dining hours that extend past midnight sets The Star Hotel a part and provides the ideal spot for guests to enjoy a nightcap and complete their evening.”
