Two Sydney Brewery ciders have been recognised  at the 2018 World Cider Awards.

A panel of international judges in London identified the world’s best ciders in each of five categories. All entries were blind tasted and scored throughout three rounds of judging. In the first round bronze, silver and gold medals were awarded. Each gold medal winner was then judged in the second round to identify the best per category in each country. In the final round, all best per category and country competed for the title of World’s Best in their category.

Sydney Brewery took home the World’s Best Flavoured Cider gong for it’s Agave Ginger Cider, while it’s Manly Perry was awarded World’s Best Perry.

The other gold medal winners were

  • World’s Best Non-Sparkling Cider: Angry Orchard, Stone Dry (USA)
  • World’s Best Sparkling Cider: Hoila, Cider (Italy)
  • World’s Best Speciality Cider: Angry Orchard, Iceman (USA)

“The world of cider is in an exciting place, reaching out both to beer lovers and to the wine community,” says Susanna Forbes, chair of the awards. “This is reflected in the quality and styles of our trophy winners, which emanate from three continents. While Melia in the Italian South Tyrol won the hotly contested trophy for sparkling cider, special praise goes to Sydney Brewery for scooping two trophies, one for its Manly Perry and the other for its Agave Ginger Cider.”

Sydney Brewery’s Richard Feyn said the awards were great recognition of the quality of Australian cider producers.

“The team at Sydney Brewery is ecstatic at being named ‘world’s best’ because our brewers are passionate, the produce is outstanding, and the flavours and freshness we deliver provides a unique taste of Sydney,” he says.

“The timing of the award couldn’t be better as Sydney Brewery has just opened its new brewery in Sydney’s Surry Hills, complementing our Hunter Valley brewery. Our range of beers and ciders are designed to be reflective of this great city and with summer just around the corner, there can be no better accompaniment to a BBQ or party. They are fun drinks that really deliver a high-quality, distinctive craft brew.”
