For the first time in Nestlé Golden Chef’s Hat’s history, we’ll be bringing the celebration of the 55th awards direct to your device.
Join us on Tuesday 17 November for a virtual award ceremony. The event is free, so set a reminder for 2.30pm AEDT, then go on to our YouTube channel to watch the celebration unfold and find out who will be crowned the 2020 Golden Chef of the Year.
In a year like no other, Australia’s longest-running culinary competition has responded with an exciting new virtual format to ensure young culinary talent still had an opportunity to put themselves to the test and elevate their careers.
“As a result of the hospitality lockdowns, we wanted to make sure we continued to be true to our 55-year legacy of developing the next generation of young chefs,” says Karlie Durrant, communications manager, Nestlé Professional.
“This year has been the time that young chefs have needed our support more than ever. Nestlé Professional promised to stand by our young chef community and we’ve gone all out to make it as exciting an experience as ever.”
Chefs have been given a chance to elevate their skills, shape their future and continue to be connected to the incredibly supportive community that is foodservice.
The challenge: to prove their prowess in the kitchen through a reimagined video entry format.
Swapping commercial kitchens for domestic kitchens, we got to see young chefs in their authentic environment – showcasing who they were, what drives them to be a chef, and of course their impressive skills.
As the lockdown challenges continued, we moved from one grand final event to simultaneous cook-off finals at multiple locations. From Perth to Christchurch, Hobart to Darwin, and everywhere in between.
The new approach saw our top chef talent push themselves to the ultimate test – across entrée, main and dessert courses.
To ensure a level playing field, expert judges from the Australian Culinary Federation and NZChefs were assigned to each final location to assess professional practices, presentation and the all-important taste factor.
The stakes were high, with the opportunity for one Golden Chef of the Year to win $10,000 in prize money.
Join us to celebrate this landmark journey that the Top Ten have worked so hard to be a part of.
