The Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne have been an icon in the cultural life of the city for more than 175 years.

The gardens are much loved by generations of Victorians, as well as by many visitors from interstate and overseas, welcoming over 1.5 million visitors each year.

It is a picturesque haven for recreation and an important resource for education, conservation, science and horticulture.

The Melbourne Gardens extend over 38 hectares and houses a collection of more than 8,500 species of plants from around the world.

This expression of interest for Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne is for the Visitor Centre F&B space (Jardin Tan & kiosk), adjacent to the visitor centre and gift shop.

The Gardens has identified the F&B space as a significant opportunity for rejuvenation of the food and hospitality proposition with this expression of interest.

The Gardens have a Food and Hospitality Strategy with a vision to improve the food & hospitality experience to represent the best of Melbourne’s operators matching the Gardens aspirational goals.

The addition of the Darling Group at the Terrace, Curtis Stone Events as the open Gardens caterer and continued partnership with Atlantic group is the realisation and commitment to the strategy.

This expression of interest is for the current restaurant and kiosk with al fresco spaces. This includes the opportunity to incorporate a significant portion of the visitor centre floor space to diversify the food and beverage offer.

The Gardens will be asking respondents to put forward their vision for a concept that includes capital investment with a positioning strategy to cater to a broad Royal Botanic Gardens’ demographic.

The internal and external spaces are all licenced areas allowing the operator to create a versatile F&B offer for all day parts and seasons. The RBGV Licence agreement supports a retail F&B offer with the opportunity to have private functions outside of Gardens’ primary hours within their licenced area.

Creative and forward-looking hospitality operators will see the potential to create unique experiences for their customers through the entire year to maximise the potential at Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne.
