South Yarra will be the home to a new neighbourhood-dining spot this December with the opening of Sth Central.

Sth Central marks the first restaurant by Melbourne catering crew Tommy Collins, and will have a focus on honest produce with a modern Australian slant, together with excellent service.

“Old-school hospitality is important to us,” says Leroy Smith, who will be heading up front of house.

“Sth Central is about simple things done well. Premium quality service is paramount, complemented by a buzzing and inviting dining space. Sth Central will welcome guests with a dynamic feel that will reinvigorate the art of hospitality.”

The venue has been inspired by the likes of The Town Mouse and Cumulus Inc., with food offerings comprising local meats, fish and vegetables with fire and wood grilling. The wine list will feature predominately Australian drops with a few international additions for good measure.

The menu as described by head chef Daniel Southern, will have a ‘meat and three veg’ focus, paired with progressive techniques.

“We don’t want to over complicate things," adds Smith. "We want Sth Central to be accessible to the locals with the opportunity for clientele to splash out with a great beverage offering."

Award-winning architecture firm Molecule are behind the design of the new venue which features the raw aesthetic of railway terminals paired with industrial materials and pops of colour. The interior will feature contemporary Australian-made chairs by Barbera Design, lighting by Articolo and Giffin Design that will be strung from the seven-metre ceiling, and art from local artist Shaun Gladwell. Parisian-style, street-front outdoor seating will also be a feature.

Sth Central is located directly opposite South Yarra station and will be open for lunch and dinner seven days. The venue is slated for an early December opening.
