One-hat Korean fine diner Soul Dining has moved from its home on Devonshire Street in Surry Hills to a brand-new space in the heart of Sydney’s CBD.

The restaurant was one of the first high-end Korean eateries to open in the city back in 2019, with husband and wife team Illa Kim and Chef Daero Lee spearheading a concept that introduced traditional Korean techniques and ingredients to the dining public.

Now, the team has moved to Carrington Street in Wynyard into a much larger space that’s been fitted out with the same moody aesthetic the restaurant has become known for.

While the menu still has some of Soul’s most iconic dishes – think Yamba prawn tteokbokki and its signature fermented rice bread – the team has developed new dishes for the opening.

The restaurant is in the soft launch phase and is running a $120 10-course set menu that includes an ox tongue jangjorim doughnut; kingfish teamed with white kimchi, avocado, and spiced soy bean paste; and scallop bori-cap, which sees the seafood draped over a mound of pearl barley, black rice, and sour soybean sauce.

One of the highlights is the spicy charcoal chicken with gochujang sauce served with charred radicchio and mandatory Jenga-like rectangles of potato hashbrown.

Soul Dining will also run lunch service for the very first time, with outdoor seating overlooking Wynyard Park for bonus people watching.

Lee and Kim have had a big year, opening the doors to sibling venue Bar Soul earlier this year as well as shifting Soul Deli into a new location in Surry Hills.

Soul Dinning is open Monday to Saturday for lunch and dinner.
