The Green Park Hotel in Sydney’s Darlinghurst will close its doors after more than 30 years of pouring beers.

Solotel has confirmed the group has sold the pub to St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney.

The hospital will not renew existing liquor and gaming licenses and has plans to transform the pub into a space for community care and health services.

“The Green Park Hotel has been part of the Solomon family and Solotel Group for more than 30 years,” says Elliot Solomon, Solotel director. “We have loved every minute of our time in welcoming the Darlinghurst community to the Green Park.”

An official closing date has yet to be announced, but the pub will remain open for the next few weeks.

“The support we’ve received over the years from our much-loved guests, the Darlinghurst community and the Green Park family has meant the world to
us,” says Solotel CEO Justine Baker.

“To each and every one of you, we say thank you for making the Greeny all that it is. We look forward to giving it the send-off it deserves with our guests over the coming weeks.”

Meanwhile, Merivale has acquired The Duke of Gloucester Hotel in Randwick.

Good Beer Company purchased the pub in 2015, but will hand over the keys to Merivale in January 2021.

“Merivale’s latest purchase is a strong vote of confidence in the future of the pub industry after a devastating year and an optimistic step forward in hospitality’s road to recovery,” reads a statement from Merivale.
