After undergoing a significant transformation, The White Cockatoo in Sydney’s Petersham has reopened as West Village – the first project from Goodtime Hospitality.

The group is co-owned by James Bodel and Locky Paech (ex The Norfolk, The Forresters) and is located directly opposite the Petersham train station.

Designer Alexander and Co has recreated the look and feel of the 130 year old building, with a number of new spaces for diners, including an indoor/outdoor courtyard and a sports bar. The team used original structural elements such as heritage ceilings, concealed archways and old brickwork to help pay homage to the building’s history while offering a contemporary neighbourhood dining space.

The modern Australian pub menu has been put together by Paech and chef Sam Thomson (ex Catalina) and features small and large share plates as well as a range of salads, mains and sides. Ethically farmed meat from NSW will be on offer, as will specialty produce from local organic markets and house-made ferments, pickles, relishes and sauces.

Highlights of the menu include ‘kimchi poutine’ – fries topped with kimchi, spring onion, melted cheese and crme fraiche; blue swimmer crab roll with avocado and celery; and a whole herb crusted pork loin with roasted pumpkin and pineapple ketchup.

There will also be a separate bar food menu featuring pub staples like fish and chips, a cheeseburger, and chicken schnitzel as well as rotating specials for the burger of the day, sandwich of the day and curry of the day.

Andrew Jamieson Wine Merchants has created the wine menu, which is an all-Australian offering of predominately NSW wines. A range of cocktails will be served in bespoke bottles along with negroni on tap and a large selection of craft beer.

Patio, a pub-caf style sub-brand of the group, will launch later this year within the West Village courtyard, with a breakfast offering from 7-11am. It will then double as the pub’s courtyard for lunch and dinner.
