The Ōra King Awards are returning for the sixth year, with chefs around Australia and the world encouraged to demonstrate their creativity in line with this year’s theme, Inspired by Art.

Entries are now open for the awards and chefs are required to enter a dish that highlights Ōra King Salmon, taking inspiration from a piece of artwork across any medium.

Finalists from Australia, Japan and North America will be invited to the New Zealand, where they’ll explore destinations including Nelson, Golden Bay and the Marlborough Sounds, and visit the hatchery, sea farm and processing facilities.

On the 2018 judging panel is current Ōra King ambassador for Australia Jason Roberts who says this year’s theme will provide a new challenge to chefs.

“Plate presentation is an essential element to this year’s entries but along with that I’m going to be looking for a dish that delivers on technique, balance and flavour,” he says. “The dish will need to tick all of those boxes and really celebrate the Ōra King product.”

The competition will culminate in the Ōra King Awards in Nelson on 16 October where the winners will be announced. The four coveted titles are Best Ōra King Dish New Zealand, Best Ōra King Dish Australia, Best Ōra King Dish North America and Best Ōra King Dish Japan.

Chefs are required to submit their entry via a short online form at orakingsalmon.co.nz. Entries are open until 31 July with finalists announced on 17 September.
