The Australian Hotels Association NSW (AHA NSW) and Tourism Accommodation Australia NSW (TAA NSW) have welcomed a new Government campaign which is promoting careers in the hospitality sector.
‘Kickstart Your Career in Hospitality’ was launched by the NSW Minister for Hospitality and Racing, Kevin Anderson, last week at the Willoughby Hotel.
The campaign will showcase the industry and highlight the range of long-term career options available throughout the sector.
“The NSW Government is already providing significant support to entice people to join the industry or upskill, through a variety of free short training courses. This will now be promoted by a targeted campaign to encourage people to consider starting their career in hospitality,” Minister Anderson said.
“Hospitality has traditionally been viewed as a short-term employment option, but this campaign highlights the broad range of opportunities that exist for people wanting a rewarding and long-term career.”
The campaign includes a mixture of video and display ads that can run across TikTok and in partnership with Pedestrian TV. The ads will drive audiences to the hospitality career site, where they can explore a range of courses and job vacancies in the hospitality industry.
In a further boost for the industry, the Government has also recently launched a Hospitality Concierge service with a dedicated team to help new hospitality businesses start up, or existing ones to grow by expanding their offerings such as offering alfresco dining as we come into the summer months.
AHA NSW Director of Liquor and Policing John Green said pubs in both regional and urban areas of NSW were desperate for workers as the busy festive season approached.
“Nationwide we are looking at a shortage of more than 100,000 in the hospitality sector ranging from kitchen hands and bar staff to chefs and cooks,” Green said.
“Many NSW hotels are being forced to close their kitchens on certain days of the week or close their doors early because they simply do not have enough staff.
“This new social media campaign is a step in the right direction to encourage more people to join our vibrant industry and we congratulate the Minister.”
The new five-week campaign promotes the Government’s offer of a variety of free short training courses across a range of skills through Training Services NSW.
TAA NSW CEO Michael Johnson said the accommodation sector was supportive of any initiative to encourage more people into a career in hospitality.
“Hospitality is career which really does open doors and we need to encourage young people in particular to realise this – the sky really is the limit,” he said.
“So, we welcome initiatives like this one which show first-hand, that with the right training there are plenty of chances and opportunities out there for hospitality workers.”
