With precincts trending across the country, opportunities abound for hospitality operators. Rockhampton’s Riverfront Revitalistion is no exception, with the development set to transform the regional centre's iconic Quay Street into a recreational hub for businesses, locals and visitors.

Tenders are now being sought for the exclusive lease of the upper level restaurant and bar area within the new waterfront Pier structure. The site, at 189 Quay Street, offers a unique location overlooking the scenic Fitzroy River in the CBD, and provides exposure through high foot traffic.
The available space consists of a commercial kitchen and service area designed in collaboration with the successful tenderer, in addition to an air-conditioned indoor area and outdoor al fresco dining space. A wrap-around balcony features floor to ceiling glass walls and illuminated lighting makes the building appear to float on the river.
Rockhampton Region Mayor Margaret Strelow said "In a perfect world, I would like to see 5.30pm on a Friday, 200 people crowding each other out at the Pier restaurant with shared plates and lots of activity.
"As people peel off to go and find a meal, it should then feed the rest of the restaurants on Quay St and the CBD."
Ideally, Strelow said, the new venue will create a sense of relaxed fun and excitement rather than fine dining, while still providing the local community with a premium dining experience. The list of possible venues runs the gamut from wine bar to tapas, steakhouse to seafood restaurant – ultimately though, the development is open to ideas.
The building is due for completion late 2017. Invitation to Tender for the lease of The Pier opened on Wednesday 1 February 2017, and will close at 2:00pm Wednesday 1 March 2017.
