The Star and Momofuku have released a statement denying allegations published in the Sunday Telegraph on 8 May. In the article, the paper suggested David Chang had struck a deal with Packer’s Crown Casino to open a Momofuku restaurant at the Barangaroo site in 2021.
On 9 May, Momofuku responded to the story, saying "We would like to clarify that Momofuku is not opening a restaurant at the Crown Casino in Sydney. The recent story that ran in The Sunday Telegraph is completely false. Momofuku is wholly dedicated to our restaurant Seiobo, which opened at The Star Hotel and Casino in 2011."
The Star said a similar statement was provided to The Telegraph two days before the story’s publication.
The Telegraph has since updated the article to reflect Momofuku’s statement, but maintains that its sources insisted a secret deal had been made.
