Kuro will launch in Sydney on Friday 1 November, opening three of its four highly anticipated concepts.

The Kent Street heritage-listed location will encompass four experiences: a brew bar, a bar, a 40-seat restaurant and a 10-seat fine dining experience, which is slated to open later in the year.

The venue, owned by Alan Wong and executive chef Taka Teramoto, is wholly influenced by Japan from the menu to the interior.

“We are driven by sustainability, innovation, passion and precision. All these elements are evident throughout our venue and in every aspect of our execution,” says Wong.

The restaurant, dubbed Kuro Dining, is open for dinner and features a menu co-designed by Teramoto and head chef Nobu Maruyama, who previously worked at Bar H. A lunch service will begin in the coming weeks.

Dishes range from small options such as fried chicken with ume and crispy katsuobushi to proteins from aged whole fish to Rangers Valley Angus beef and calamari with kimizu, fried ginger and shallots.

The wine list, by sommelier Wanaka Teramoto, largely focuses on Australian producers and minimal-intervention varieties. There are 10 wines available by the glass and more than 120 bottles plus Japanese beers.

Bartenders Fumiaki Michishita and Yasushiro Kawakubo have flown in from Tokyo to spearhead Kuro Bar which will revolve around inventive creations.

Cocktails include the Lava Flow of Mt. Fuji with Nagakumo, coconut, pineapple, grape and matcha along with the Green Hour with G’Vine Floraison gin, absinthe, dry vermouth, granny smith, dill and champagne cordial.

Japanese spirits will also be on offer including whisky, gin, sake and Shochu.

The Brew Bar will be open on weekdays and offer diners house-roasted coffee and a revolving list of single origins.

Matcha has been sourced from Japan with a range of sweets available from matcha eclairs to lamington cake.

A fine-dining experience with the executive chef and sommelier will launch later this year and offer an experience for 10 guests at the chef’s table.
