Contemporary Indian restaurant Ish has opened on Gertrude Street in Melbourne’s Fitzroy.
Described as ‘Indian-ish’ the restaurant aims to represent modern Indian cuisine with an Australian influence.
“Indian cuisine is continually evolving, and at Ish, we’re hoping to bring [the] same energy and passion to the table with an understanding of how Melburnians like to dine,” says owner Ganeev Bains.
Bains consulted Indian chef Sainyam Kapoor to create a menu executed by sous chef Himank Bhardwaj (Barbecue Nation, Taj Group Hotels).
Menu items include tempura eggplant with capsicum chhonka and tamarind peanut salad, butter-poached scallops with South Indian coconut curry, free-range chicken tikka and slow-cooked Kerala beef curry.
The restaurant is spread across two levels and features banquette seating, a communal table and artwork by Annu.
Ish is open Tuesday to Sunday from 5pm until late.
