Young’s Wine Rooms has opened in a 100-year-old building in Melbourne’s Hawthorn East.

Located on Camberwell Road, the venue offers Mediterranean food teamed with a stellar wine offering and a cocktail list designed by Nori Schmidt.

Nicola Akritidis has been appointed head chef of the venue after time at Vue de monde, Attica and Longrain.

Akritidis’ menu is split up into sections: charcuterie, small bites, raw bar, large plates and desserts. Diners can choose from charcuterie boards with Jamon Iberico de Bellota, Wagyu Bresaola and small bites including burrata with grilled peach and basil; Ora King salmon with citrus and cucumber and patatas bravas.

Larger plates include pork chop with bullhorn peppers, porcini and salsa verde; dry-aged rib eye with charred shepherd’s salad and calamari with radicchio, sultanas, mint, pine nuts and basil.

Wines are available by the glass and the bottle, with a range of options on offer from Tuscany to Loire Valley and Croatia.

Young’s Wine Rooms is the second venue from James Klapanis, who is behind Vietnamese eatery St Cloud.

“The success of St Cloud proves just how ripe the area is for quality hospitality venues that are a dime a dozen in the CBD,” he says. “Young’s will be an invitation to eat well, drink well and have a fantastic time, any time.”
