Nearly three years in the making, The Grounds of the City has swung open its doors in Sydney’s CBD.

The ‘coffeehouse-inspired inner-city hub’ is the sister of its flagship Alexandria location, and will be open seven days a week, offering  breakfast and lunch daily with late trading on Thursday evenings, and late opening hours on Fridays and Saturdays coming soon.

An open-style kitchen is on view, led by group executive chef, Paul McGrath, plating up both dine-in and takeaway offerings.

“In true The Grounds style, we’ve designed a menu that offers something for everyone,” said McGrath. “We’ve combined the best staples, like house-made crumpets and cakes, with classics such as ethically and sustainably-caught seafood and premium steak cuts.”

The new venue draws inspiration from traditional coffeehouse culture, complete withThe Barista’s Bar, an area fitted with state-of-the-art espresso and filter technology highlighting The Grounds’ house-roasted coffee and roastery.

The Grounds of the City has coffee sommeliers ready to guide guests through tailored experiences, whilst the Tea Lady roams the venue with her custom-made trolley offering teas, cakes and pastries. Shoeshiners are also on-hand to tend to those waiting for their morning coffee.

The venue was designed by multi-disciplinary studio ACME&Co.

“The intricate design ensures that patrons are taken on a sensory journey, where each visit is a hand-crafted experience. We have selected materials, sourced fixtures and collaborated with true crafts-people to ensure that all details and building techniques are of the era. With hospitality at its core, the City project encapsulates The Grounds brand and identity,” said Vince Alafaci and Caroline Choker of ACME&Co.

The Grounds of the City is located at The Galeries, 500 George Street.
