Popular restaurant and wedding venue, The Baths in Victoria’s Sorrento has been destroyed by a fire that broke out on Sunday night.

According to The Age, County Fire Authority crews arrived at the Mornington Peninsula restaurant at about 8.15pm on 18 October, and despite the efforts of 11 crew members, the building was destroyed.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this stage.

The restaurant made a brief statement on its Facebook page, asking those that have weddings booked in at the venue to get in touch.

“We are devastated that The Baths restaurant has burnt down. Thankfully no customers or staff have been injured, as it was a Sunday evening and the restaurant was closed. We would like to thank the CFA volunteers for fighting the fire,” the statement read.

Earlier this month, popular Sydney restaurant Nomad had to evacuate 60 people during lunch service after a fire broke out in the kitchen. Fire crews were called to the scene at around 1.45pm and had the blaze extinguished by around 2pm. No injuries were reported and the restaurant was open for lunch the following day.

South Melbourne's The Albion, formerly known as The Motel, was also badly damaged by fire on Monday 5 October, with arson suspected to be the cause of the blaze. A construction foreman entered the site to find two balaclava-clad men close to where the fire originated. The two men allegedly attacked the foreman shortly before fleeing the scene. Arson squads arrived at the scene at around 9am and police have since issued a statement announcing that they are treating the fire as suspicious.
