As part of the annual DineSmart event, 133 leading restaurants across five states helped to raise over $264,000 for homeless services in the lead-up to Christmas.
Now in its 13th year, the campaign, organised by Streetsmart, sees restaurants ask their diners to add an extra $2 to their bill to support smaller homeless services in the communities where they operate.
From 9 Nov to 31 Dec diners gave a total of $264,096, up 12 percent on the 2014 figure. StreetSmart has now raised over $3.85 million for over 450 community organisations.
The 2015 DineSmart Fundraising Champions are:
- Chin Chin – National and VIC Fundraising Champions
- Stalactites – National Fundraising Champions Runners Up and Most Improved
- Caf Sydney – NSW Fundraising Champions
- Il Centro – QLD Fundraising Champions
- Windy Point Restaurant – SA Fundraising Champions
- Hanoi Hannah, Melbourne – Best New Participant
Adam Robinson CEO of StreetSmart Australia said “We couldn’t do this without our restaurant partners and their staff. Again and again, our supporters get involved and make a difference at what is a very busy time of year. I applaud them all because government funding is being cut across the board, and without our small community grants some of these important services would end or not get up and running.”
Community grants will be announced in April.
