Sydney’s North Shore will get a new bar in the form of Hendriks Cognac & Wine.

The venue will open its doors on Friday 21 August, with 30 Cognacs on offer, more than 100 bottles of wine and a selection of cocktails.

Jakob Overduin and James Knight are behind the concept, and say a venue like Hendriks has been a long time coming for the area.

“We’ve really paid attention to what Crows Nest has and doesn’t have and felt this was a great opportunity to develop a bar with a unique offering, as well as show locals and destination drinkers how approachable and versatile Cognac is,” says Overduin.

Consultant Mark Diets has curated the Cognac list, which puts Frapin VIP XO Grande Champagne Cognac ($42 per nip), Hennessy XO ($32 per nip) and 1991 Frapin Millésime 20yo Premier Cru Grande Champagne front and centre.

Customers can also try signature Cognac-based cocktails including Hendriks (Hennessy VS, Cointreau, Fireball cinnamon whisky, fresh orange and pineapple) and The Major (Hennessy VS, grapefruit juice, lemon juice, spiced honey syrup, basil and chipotle powder).

The food offering encompasses everything from snacks (cheeseburger spring rolls, arancini, olives) to charcuterie and cheese boards and gourmet toasties.

All toasties feature St. Malo Bakery bread and are served with brandy drizzle.

The offering includes the Juicy Lucy (beef patty filled with aged cheddar and cooked in a cheese blend); The Hunter (chicken, porcini, speck and comte cooked in Cognac); Cognac mushroom and cheese and Cognac caramelised shallots and cheese.

Hendricks will open from midday Tuesday to Sunday.

Bookings are essential for lunch and dinner on Friday and the weekend, with walk-ins welcome during the other days.
