The Langham, Melbourne has announced the appointment of Christy Tania as the hotel’s new executive pastry chef.

Tania attended L’Ecole Nationale Superieure de la Patisserie and learnt from Alain Ducasse and Yves Thuries before working in numerous fine dining restaurants, such as the double Michelin star L’Espadon within the Ritz Hotel in Paris and Guy Savoy in Singapore.

In Melbourne she has worked at award-winning establishments such as Jacques Reymond, Vue de Monde and Sak.

Most recently, Tania was the executive head pastry chef at The Adelphi Hotel’s Om Nom Dessert Bar, at which she received a chef’s hat  within two months.

Tania also appeared on Network Ten’s MasterChef Australia television series in 2014, where her mango alfonso dessert was featured.

“Being a pastry chef is like a second lease on life for me,” said Tania. “Before moving to Paris to study pastry, I had a corporate life working in business strategy, project management and change management in Singapore.”

“We’re thrilled to welcome Christy to our team. Here at the hotel, she’ll have the opportunity to innovate, be imaginative, lead a tightly knit team and continue to raise the bar for pastry and desserts. Personally, I can’t wait to be a taste tester,” said Ben Sington, managing director for The Langham, Melbourne.

Tania will oversee the pastry and dessert menus for the hotel’s in-room dining, catering operation, Aria Bar & Lounge and Melba Restaurant.
