A former bartender at The Lucas Group’s Melbourne venue Chin Chin will lodge a court claim against the company on Tuesday 21 November, alleging she was underpaid $9,454.
Sorcha Harrop, 24, who worked at the venue from October 2016 until July this year, says the group failed to compensate her for overtime and superannuation. In a petition, Harrop said staff “are forced to do 14-hour long days and work up to 20 hours a week for free”.
“We have been dealing with Sorcha and her allegations since immediately after we were made aware of them,” said Chris Lucas, founder and CEO of The Lucas Group, in a statement.
“We have moved swiftly to reconcile her hours and have made several attempts to contact her to attempt to resolve the dispute.
“I am committed to ensuring The Lucas Group’s valued employees are paid correctly and within the current employment laws.”
The allegations come after the Fair Work Ombudsman released a report stating the hospitality industry was one of its top compliance priorities.
