Deliveroo, which has received over $240 million in funding from the same organisations which have invested in Uber, Facebook and AirBnB, is looking for a new head of sales to help foster the brand’s rapid expansion in Australia.

The restaurant delivery service, which was launched in the UK in 2012 and now has a presence in 55 cities around the world, was brought to Australia late last year and has partnered leading foodservice brands including Meat & Wine Co, Ribs & Burgers, Red Lantern and Mary’s with further major brands joining the platform in coming weeks.

The company is now looking for a new head of sales for NSW to help them acquire more major restaurant brands onto the platform. According to General Manager Mina Nada, the ideal candidate is someone who is not only well versed in the workings of the hospitality sector, but also has strong sales and leadership skills.

“This person is ideally an industry insider who understands how the major restaurant groups operate and has strong relationships in the industry… They hopefully have a sales background, so maybe they’ve sold wine or kitchen equipment, or they’ve sold POS equipment into restaurants before. Maybe they worked as a recruiter for chefs and helped restaurant owners acquire chefs for their restaurants.

“They’ll also need management skills, so we’re looking for someone who has either built a business and run the team, or who has worked in a more typical company where they’ve managed a sales team and know how to lead, motivate, set structures and train others in sales,” Nada told Hospitality.

Other requirements for the job:

  • Must be comfortable with targeting new business
  • Must be a capable leader and comfortable coaching and mentoring others
  • The job requires great communication skills whether it be face to face, through phone or email
  • Must be able to map and target restaurants across Sydney in a very methodical and organised fashion
  • Have an ability to persuasively demonstrate product and industry knowledge to clients
  • Knowledge of and relationships in the Sydney restaurant industry is a significant plus
  • Must be tenacious and self-motivated

The successful candidate will manage a large team of business development managers and while the position is based in Sydney, there’s opportunity for promotion as the company expands nationally. Currently Deliveroo operates in Sydney and Melbourne only.

The company has hit the ground running since launching Down Under, and the NSW head of sales needs to be goal- and results-oriented. The position is well-paid and within a company which is well-funded and growing rapidly.

“I think it’s a very unique opportunity,” Nada said. “Deliveroo has grown with astronomic speed, globally. In Australia we’ve already experienced rapid growth and are forecasting that to accelerate. There’s continued expansion; we’re rolling out regionally and nationally this year. We’ve already been judged as the best delivery experience in Australia, so we’ve made our mark quickly and we are on track to achieve our objectives in this market.”
