Bondi cafes are taking a stand on waste by banning takeaway coffee cups for one week.
From 3-11 July, more than 40 venues will join Bondi BYO Cup Week including Bru Coffee, Bills, Three Blue Ducks Bronte, Lox Stock & Barrel, Gertrude & Alice, Rocker, Porch and Parlour, The Depot and Drake.
Bondi will be the first council in the world to eliminate takeaway cups, with an estimated 35,000 cups set to be saved from landfill.
Customers will need to BYO a reusable cup to cafes, loan a mug or enjoy their brew in-house.
“I believe in the power of numbers and that a community can do much more rather than just one café,” says Bru’s Sondra Beram.
“I’m hoping that cafes will stick to their guns and ensure that no one walks away with a take-away cup and that we can make a difference and continue to do so. We owe it to our backyard, Bondi.”
Venues are welcome to jump on board with the initiative by reaching out to Beram.
