Black Star Pastry has closed the doors of its original store on King Street in Sydney’s Newtown after 13 years.
The brand, known for its famed strawberry and watermelon cake, has snagged a new spot just metres from Newtown station at 325 King Street.
While Black Star outgrew its first location, it provided a ripe opportunity to move into a heritage building which offers plenty of space.
MKZ Architects designed the shop, which features original floorboards, marble benches and a rolling pin installation.
The location is offering up all the Black Star classics from cakes to croissants, pies, sausage rolls, quiches and more.
Black Star Pastry General Manager Josef Murray says Newtown is incredibly special to the brand.
“… It’s where Black Star Pastry’s journey began all those years ago,” says Murray.
“Long before the strawberry watermelon cake and its legion of fans, it was Newtown’s locals who first embraced this budding bakery.”
The new store is open seven days from 7:30am until 5:30pm.
