Maybe Sammy has been name the Best Bar in Australasia for the second year in a row. The Sydney cocktail bar came in #11 on 2020’s The World’s 50 Best Bar’s list, which was announced at a virtual award ceremony on Friday 6 November AEDT.

The achievement comes after Maybe Sammy won The World’s 50 Best Bar’s annual Michter’s Art of Hospitality Award — awarded to a bar that industry experts say they received the best hospitality experience at — last month.

With Maybe Sammy jumping 22 spots from #43 on last year’s list, the venue was also joined in the Top 50 by fellow Sydney bars, new entry Cantina OK! #28 and Bulletin Place at #39.

Four more Australian bars featured in the extended 51-100 list: The Everleigh at #73, Byrdi at #80, Above Board at #84 and Black Pearl at #98 — all in Melbourne.

“We are thrilled to be placed on The World’s 50 Best Bars list again and for the Australian cocktail scene to have recognition on a global scale,” said Martin Hudak, who co-owns the venue with Stefano Catino, Vince Lombardo, Andrea Gualdi. “Our commitment and motivation to maintain the quality of service we believe our guests deserve has always been at the heart of Maybe Sammy. We always want our guests to feel special and the team works hard to do that at a level we’re proud of.”

London’s The Connaught took out first place on the list, while another stalwart, New York’s Dante, came in second. Rounding out the top five were The Clumsies in Athens, Atlas in Singapore and Tayēr + Elementary in London.

The 2020 list includes bars from 23 countries, with 11 new entries from across Australia, Colombia, Greater China, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, South Korea, Spain, Thailand and UK.
