Sydney’s Archie Rose Distilling Co.’s Rye Malt whisky has been dubbed the best in Australia after winning gold at the international Wine and Spirit Competition in London.
The product has yet to be released and is scheduled for launch in 2019.
Archie Rose was the first distillery in the country to source the malted rye required to produce the product and weathered a nine-month global shortage in 2015 before replacing the entire mash in 2016.
“We’re honestly blown away by the result,” says founder Will Edwards. “We have waited (and continue to wait) since 2014 for it to reach peak maturity. To be the only Australian whisky to win old and be judged Australia’s Best Whisky for a spirit that we feel is still not quite mature is incredible.”
The distillery was also award gold for their Distiller’s Strength gin.
“For our Distiller’s Strength gin to pick up top honours is awesome,” says Edwards. “We put an immense amount of time, energy and effort into our products, R&D program and production processes, so it’s always fantastic to be recognised on the increasingly competitive global stage.”
