The 2015 Electrolux Appetite for Excellence award winners were announced in Sydney last night at Salt Meats Cheese.
Now in its 10th years, Appetite for Excellence was designed to recognise Australia’s up and coming culinary talent, and is considered to be one of the industry’s most prestigious programs.
As well as attracting stellar talent, the program is judged by some of the highest profile members of the food industry each year. Judges of the 2015 event included Luke Mangan, Ross Lusted, Nick Hildebrandt, James Viles, Simon Denton and Lyndey Milan.
The Electrolux Appetite for Excellence 2015 winners are:
Electrolux Australian Young Waiter 2015
- Winner: Brooke Adey – Bentley Restaurant & Bar, New South Wales
- Runner Up: Louise Naimo – Estelle Bistro, Victoria
- Highly Commended: Nikki Friedli – Africola, South Australia
- Electrolux People’s Choice: Elizabeth Thomas – Supernormal, Victoria
Electrolux Australian Young Chef 2015
- Winner: Jake Kellie – Estelle Bistro, Victoria
- Runner Up: Aaron Starling – Bistro Guillaume, Victoria
- Highly Commended: Matt Binney – Merricote, Victoria
- Electrolux People’s Choice: Matt Binney – Merricote, Victoria
Electrolux Australian Young Restaurateur 2015
- Dual winner: Bianca Welsh from Stillwater Restaurant & Black cow bistro in Launceston, TAS and Chris Thornton from Restaurant Mason, Newcastle NSW
The Electrolux Australian Young Chef 2015 prize package includes:
- Certificate and trophy
- A once in a lifetime opportunity to attend a 4 day culinary experience in Italy courtesy of Sanpellegrino at the ALMA International School of Italian Cuisine in Parma; followed by a stage in a Michelin star restaurant in Italy
- Return international flights courtesy of Virgin Australia
- A two week stage at a world renowned restaurant
- $3000 cash to assist with overseas travel and work experience expenses
- Electrolux will provide the establishment of the winner with a selection of premium domestic kitchen appliances of their choice to the value of $5,000 RRP
