In breaking news, chef and restaurateur Andrew McConnell has signed a lease on 33 Russell Street in Melbourne.
According to a representative for McConnell, the chef had no immediate plans to launch a new venue, but couldn’t turn down the opportunity when he was approached about the site.
“33 Russell Street is a truly impressive and historic site and one of Melbourne’s most beautiful rooms,” says McConnell. “Opportunities like this are a rare find and when they come along it is really exciting. The room deserves to to be celebrated.”
No word on the concept yet, but the venue will be located on the ground floor of Cavendish House.
The new restaurant will join McConnell’s growing portfolio of acclaimed venues including Supernormal, Cumulus Inc, Marion, Cutler & Co, Cumulus Up, Supernormal Canteen, Builders Arms Hotel and Meatsmith Fitzroy.
More details will be revealed in the coming weeks.
