Eastern Suburbs restaurant Matteo Double Bay has officially opened its CBD outpost dubbed Matteo Downtown.

The restaurant from The Adored Group (Kittyhawk, Lobo Plantation) is open weekdays and offers all-day dining spanning breakfast, lunch, dinner, drinks and everything in between.

The generous space encompasses a dedicated dining room and an open terrace perfect for drinks and casual dining.

The food ethos has been inspired by chef Orazio D’Elia’s upbringing in Italy, showcasing a range of Northern Italian dishes.

Pastries will be on offer for breakfast covering Italian pastries along with a full breakfast menu which includes cacio e pepe scrambled eggs with pecorino and Italian-style pork sausages, pepper, cannellini beans and miche bread.

Lunch is available from 11am, with options including antipasto boards, squid ink fregola and linguine vongole with sea urchin.

Head sommelier Chiara Danieli has curated a wine list offering organic Italian red and white wines on tap along with Italian varieties by the bottle, such as Barolo and Barbaresco. Australian and natural wines are also available.

The space will also feature a dedicated mozzarella bar with fresh cheeses from La Stella Latticini which will feature in a number of dishes.

Pizzas will be cooked inside traditional Neapolitan brick-style pizza ovens, which were purpose-built for the space. Proteins will also be cooked in the ovens to add charcoal and smoky flavours.

The venue will also offer aperitivo from 4-6pm during the week with complimentary snacks from the kitchen. Small b ties include pizzetta, octopus bites, fried school prawns and calzone.

Bar manager Maurizio Furiani has designed a drinks list that focuses on seasonal produce covering spritzes, classic cocktails and uncommon Italian spirits such as Italicus, Puni Sole and Strega.
