Industry collective, Women of Australian Distilling have launched a mentoring and support program for women in the craft spirits industry.

The group’s founder Kathleen Davies believes that women have shaped the long-standing trends for alcohol consumption in Australia.

“Alcohol is traditionally a male-dominated industry, but I see no reason why women can’t dominate in craft distilling,” says Davies.

“As consumers, women are leading the premiumisation charge, looking for quality products and local ingredients. So, it makes sense that women should be making those products. They understand the market.”

In the program experienced leaders from larger spirit manufacturers are paired with craft distillers and blenders.

Among the line up of mentors is Managing Director of Brown-Forman Eveline Albaraccin, Managing Director of Beam-Suntory Oceania Andrea Parker and Bundaberg Distilling Company Chair Amanda Lampe.

The program kicked off its launch with a sold-out International Women’s Day lunch and cocktail degustation at Newtown’s Bloodwood restaurant.

More networking events are soon to be announced.
