Melbourne’s Caretaker’s Cottage and Sydney’s Maybe Sammy have scored Australia’s only places in The World’s 50 Best Bars 2025 list, coming in at number 19 and number 42 respectively.
Hong Kong’s Bar Leone came in at number one, the first time an Asian bar has placed top of the list.
2025 marks the seventh year in a row that Maybe Sammy has made the list, and the fourth for Caretaker’s Cottage. Caretaker’s Cottage has retained its title as Best Bar in Australasia. The venue rose two places, having placed at 21 on last year’s list, while Maybe Sammy has slid down from last year’s 26th ranking.
Maybe Sammy Co-Founder Stefano Catino thanked everyone who voted.
“Are we one of the best bars in the world? Some nights, yes. Other nights, we know we can do better. What matters is that we’ve grown stronger each year – as a team, as a business, and as a bar,” says Catino.
“For seven years we’ve proudly put Sydney on the global cocktail map, and that consistency means everything to us. Australia is one of the best food and drink destinations in the world, and we’re honoured to be part of it. Thank you to everyone who voted – it truly means the world.”
Meanwhile, Melbourne’s Byrdi was the only Australian bar made it to the extended list (51-100), which was announced last week.
