Restaurant & Catering Australia (R&CA) is the recipient of a $1.1 million grant from the Victorian Government for the Workforce Training Innovation Fund: Building New Quality Hospitality Apprentice Pathways in Victoria program.

As part of the program, R&CA will launch a 12-month promotional campaign to promote the various opportunities associated with apprenticeship pathways in the hospitality sector and improve existing job training models, in partnership with William Angliss Institute.

The program will aim to engage 200-250 apprentices through a new menu-based training delivery model, development of an attitudinal assessment tool, a promotional program for industry personalities to promote apprenticeships, a capstone test for cookery and the establishment of front-of-hose apprenticeships.

R&CA CEO Juliana Payne said that the Association’s project will help to significantly improve current uptake of apprenticeships in Victoria’s burgeoning hospitality industry.

“The Association is delighted to be working with the Victorian Government to promote the benefits of a long-term career pathway in the hospitality sector through pursuing an apprenticeship,” Payne says.

“Through the awarding of today’s grant, the Victorian Government has recognised the exceptional opportunity that exists to capitalise on the significant jobs growth within the State’s café, restaurant and catering sector.

“Through its this program, the Association will be launching a comprehensive campaign targeted at both students and hospitality employers.

“The program will provide employers with assistance by introducing an improved on and off job training model enabling apprentices to learn and practice job-ready skills.

“As a result, the program will contribute to improved outcomes during apprenticeships, including boosting productivity and morale, leading to increased rates of uptake, retention and completion.

“Through the completion of the Building New Quality Hospitality Apprentice Pathways in VIctoria program, the Association will be able help deliver significant improvements to the apprenticeship landscape throughout Victoria.”
