A new North Sydney venue that’s part-cafe and part-bar is a casual spot for any occasion, designed with locals in mind.
Hospitality heavyweight Michael Broome opened the venue, Ost (short for osteria), drawing on his extensive experience to balance price and quality. The restaurateur also owns Sydney CBD fast fine diner Ette and recently sold Jacksons on George after it won pub of the year at the AHA NSW awards.
Ost is an all-day eatery and neighbourhood small bar designed for everything from morning coffee runs to after-work cocktails. Adding to the neighbourly vibe is a beer garden, which will feature live music every Friday from 5pm.
“Ost is a place of gathering. It is about creating somewhere North Sydney locals can call their own, whether it’s a quick morning coffee, a casual lunch, or after-work drinks in the beer garden,” says Broome.
The café by day will feature Dutch Smuggler coffee, handcrafted sandwiches, hearty breakfast wraps, breakfast burgers, toasties, and pastries along with all the café classics. A 10am liquor licence means people can also enjoy a mid-morning mimosa with breakfast.
From afternoon into the night the venue will transform where guests can enjoy wine, cocktail, bar snacks, pizzas, steaks, and burgers, suitable for casual corporate lunches, after-work catch-ups or lingering evening dinners and drinks.
Guests can also look forward to $15 daily specials; pizza on Monday, schnitzel and chips on Tuesday, chicken wings on Wednesday, burgers on Thursday, and fish and chips on Friday.
The bar program is led by Ette’s Beverage Director, Claudio Matricini, who has curated a line-up of approachable yet refined cocktails, alongside local wines and beers. Ongoing deals include $7 house spirits and local beers, and $10 glasses of wine, and a daily happy hour with $10 margheritas and $5 house spirits and beers from 4:30pm to 5.30pm.
Ost is open Monday to Friday from 7.30am till late, with the beer garden and venue also available for private functions on weekends.
