50 Best is expanding to cover North America, Canada, and the Caribbean.
Since its inception more than two decades ago, The World’s 50 Best Restaurants program has expanded to regional lists including Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East and North Africa.
North America is the newest arm of the brand, which will encompass a live events program and awards ceremony, where the top 50 restaurants will be revealed.
300 independent, anonymous restaurant experts from eight different sub-regions will vote for establishments, which will span various cuisines, price points, styles of cooking.
“North America has a thriving and diverse restaurant scene, which is constantly changing and evolving – its wealth of culinary traditions and influence cannot be understated,” says Director of Content William Drew. “We believe that there is an opportunity to honor restaurants across the region, which includes Canada and parts of the Caribbean in addition to the U.S., and inspire food-lovers to seek out new experiences.”
US restaurants Eleven Madison Park and The French Laundry have both been named the best restaurant in the world in 2017 and 2003 and 2004 respectively, which makes them ineligible for future 50 best rankings.
North America’s 50 Best Restaurants 2025 will make its debut later this year, with the location and date of the ceremony to be announced shortly.
