Tomorrow marks the start of the Year of the Snake, and restaurants around the country are celebrating with exclusive menus and special deals. We take a look at what’s on.
Arthur, Surry Hills

Head chef Juwon Gwak and former head chef Will Lawson have collaborated to bring two special set menus to the table in honour of Lunar New Year celebrations. The menus will run 29 January to 17th February. Guests can choose from a $120 menu with zucchini flower siu mai; Szechuan kangaroo tartare; and Pork char siu, quandong, blood plum, and sesame leaves; or the $160 menu with the addition of abalone, mushroom, miso, and bok choy; and bug toast with salted egg yolk.
Fat Noodle, Pyrmont

Celebrated chef Luke Nguyen is hosting a six-course banquet for one night only on 4 February. The $128 menu will include a lychee and kalamansi iced tea mocktail on arrival, and dishes including fatt choy yu sheng with Australian king salmon, kaluga caviar, sesame and peanuts, and limed mango dressing; spanner crab Rieu soup with abaolone, fish maw, and tomato broth; braised pork ravioli with yam taro, lotus chips, and chef Nguyen’s master stock; steamed blue spotted coral trout with sawtooth coriander and lobster bisque; and king prawn fried rice.
Aperture, Sydney

Capella Executive Chef Gabriele Taddeucci and Aperture Head Pastry Chef Arthur Carré are collaborating on a Lunar New Year afternoon tea experience from 29 January – 16 February. The $125 menu includes lobster roll, baby gem, and yuzu mayo; peking duck pancake roll cornettos with cucumber, hoisin, and shallot; pandan and mandarin lamingtons; and spiced orange tartlettes; paired with specialty teas and world-class wines.
Ginger Restaurant, Parkroyal Monash

For a more affordable option, Executive Chef Punit Fernande has crafted a three-course set menu for $68 per person, running 29 January to 4 February. Menu options include prawn and ginger dumplings; Atlantic salmon with grilled broccolini, and roasted sesame dressing; and chocolate brownie with citrus cream and meringue.
Yugen, South Yarra

A five-course banquet menu will be available downstairs at South Yarra’s Yugen for $168 per person from 29 January to 2 February. Dishes include spanner crab and corn tartlets; rock oysters; sashimi; crispy pork belly; grilled king prawns; and a dessert special of caramelised pineapple tart.
Penfolds x Donna Chang Restaurant, Adelaide

Head chef Scott Huggins is moving aside to let Donna ChangHead Chef Lyndon Tyers curate a Lunar New Year menu at the Penfolds Magill Estate Cellar Door and Underground Cellar. Running over just two days, February 8 and 9, the $395 menu will include a glass of Penfolds Champagne Cuvée Brut NV upon arrival and a take-home Penfolds gift.
Crown Sydney, Barangaroo

From Golden Century’s famed XO pippies, to Epicurean’s milk tea panna cotta and 88 Noodle’s koong ob woonsen with grilled king prawns and glass noodles, Crown’s venues are celebrating Lunar New Year between 29 January and 12 February.
