In another coup for the Australian summer, the iconic Icebergs Dining Room in Bondi has announced the launch of An Australian Aperitivo, a series of weekly Sunday evening events to be held on the Icebergs Terrace, starting this weekend.

At this stage, only the line-ups for the first two aperitivo events have been announced, but the current program bodes well for what is to come. Already, a stable of Australian hospitality giants have signed up to participate in what is being described as “an Aussie barbecue atop the Pacific Ocean”.

The first event, on Sunday 21 February, will launch with a combined food and drink menu compiled by Anthony Puharich (Victor Churchill, Vic’s Meats), Andrew Guard (Andrew Guard Wine Imports), and Morgan McGlone (chef and co-founder of Belles Hot Chicken).

The next event, on Sunday 28 February, will feature a menu curated by Paul Carmichael (Momofuku Seiobo), Mike Bennie (P&V Wine + Liquor Merchants), and Anton Forte (owner and restaurateur behind Shady Pines Saloon, The Baxter Inn, Frankie’s Pizza, Restaurant Hubert and Alberto Lounge).

Although each week’s offerings will be different, the focus will be on fresh Australian produce, cooked using fire and coals on the terrace in front of guests.

“This isn’t a ‘pop-up’, this is an expression of what we all love about Australian hospitality,” says Icebergs Group head chef, Alex Prichard. “We want this to feel natural. Everything is being done out on the terrace in front of you so you can have the most interaction with our guest chefs, sommeliers, bartenders, and all-round industry legends.

“It feels more like a barbecue at a dear friend’s house. Only your friend happens to live on top of the Pacific Ocean, and their family serving you happens to be some of the most incredible individuals from the restaurant industry in the world.”

Further dates and guest chef appearances for An Australian Aperitivo will be made available on the Icebergs website as they are announced.
