Sydney Hotelier Glenn Piper has snapped up Newcastle’s Merewether Beach Hotel, adding the historic pub to his portfolio.

Piper has teamed up with investors to purchase the venue, and has plans to breathe new life into the pub, which he discovered was on the market through his family.

“Merewether Beach Hotel is a truly magnificent property, with one of the best pub views in the country,” he says.

“It has been part of the community since the 1880s, so I feel humbled and excited by this once-in-a lifetime opportunity to take it on.”

Piper will take over the pub in July, with the venue trading as normal for the foreseeable future.

The venue is known for its seaside views and modern approach to pub dining, with the menu covering all the classics including pizzas, steaks, burgers and a dedicated seafood section.

The Beach Hotel joins the hotelier’s other venues which include Harbord Hotel in Freshwater and the 30-hectare Q Station in Manly.

Q Station is currently operating as is, with Piper consulting with land, heritage and Indigenous stakeholders before making any changes.
