In news that will delight Sydneysiders, cult bakery Flour and Stone will expand from its tiny shopfront in Woolloomoolloo.

Owner and baker Nadine Ingram took to Instagram to announce the news, confirming the team have secured 43 Riley Street, a site located a few doors down from the current store.

“There’s been rumblings of Flour and Stone leaving the hood for bigger premises,” Ingram wrote on Flour and Stone’s Instagram account.

“We actually outgrew our bakery about two years ago. In the meantime our incredible team have been working on top of one another like an acrobat pyramid. You really get to know one another, intimately. And the rewards for that are immeasurable. But it’s not sustainable.”

The acclaimed baker described the site as “the beginning of a new chapter to maintain our ambition to stay small”, a notion Ingram spoke about at the Hospitality Leaders Summit in July.

“I’m pretty obsessed with staying small,” said Ingram. “The quality and consistency is the most important part, for me, of being small — that all happens through our connection with one another and working through the challenges together.”

Dubbed Flour and Stone Annexe, the site is of similar size to the original and renovations will commence in the coming months.

The Annexe will operate in conjunction with the original site, which Ingram says is a win-win for customers and the Flour and Stone team alike.
